I frowned at the notification. 12 out of the full 50 points when I was hoping they would get the lion’s share. Fixing the fight so it was easier on them was apparently worth a lot to the system today. I snapped away the notice and looked at Todd. At first I hadn’t planned on being escorted, but perhaps it would be more prudent after that demonstration. “Are you still good to take me to Festival Pointe?”

Todd looked at Carl excitedly, who nodded. “Take him fast and get back here,” Carl ordered. “They’re still sparse, but that don’t mean another isn’t somewhere close behind it.”

“Yes sir,” Todd said before grabbing me by the arm. I allowed myself to be pulled away.

“And stay safe!” Carl yelled after us.

“Sure thing!” Todd said before we ran around the corner and out of sight. He let go of me, and we fell into a comfortable jog. “How did you do that? With the spear? It zipped passed us and then, what? Lifted off of the ground before hitting the leg and impaling it, then bending?”

“Yeah, that’s basically it,” I said, amused by Todd’s youthful enthusiasm. “I picked up a psychic class by defeating a boss, so I have telekinesis now.”

“Oh, man, that’s so cool! The only one of our group that has a class is Carl, and that’s because he said, ‘I’m fine being a simple Marksman, but if you guys want to wait, then wait. Guns’ll still be guns.’ So I’m waiting for something cooler. Knowing that you can be a literal psychic really makes me glad I didn’t choose right out of the gate.”

“Out of the seven of you? I’m surprised so many are waiting,” I said, though I knew most people waited. Honestly, Kayla being so decisive about the Double Agent class had been a surprise to me, too.

Todd nodded. “The tutorial zone guy, Big Hangman, was really damn creepy but he gave a lot of good advice,” he explained. “One suggestion was not to take the first class unless it sounded amazing. When we all got gun-based classes that sounded like it was basically ‘Shoot, then survive to shoot some more,’ only Carl took one. Oh! But I heard there were a few guys in town that could fling magic! I haven’t seen it yet, but wouldn’t that be cool? I can imagine it now, Todd Carver, Spellslinger for hire. Don’t you think that would be awesome?”

“Yes, Todd, that would be really, really awesome,” I said with a smile. There was a Spellslinger class, though I doubted Todd would know about it specifically. It didn’t work with automatic weapons, though. “Hey, do you think you can tell me more about the groups I’m about to run into at the town hall meeting?”

“Oh, sure,” Todd said. He was keeping up with the conversation while jogging pretty well, and I wondered if that was because of his sports band or if his Constitution was naturally high. Or if he just put points into it.
